Running in the clouds – 1 July, 2023
Visit the Rodna Mountains, home of rhododendrons and chamois!
A significant part of the 50-km long, 30-40-km wide ridge of Rodna Mountains is situated above a 2000-m height, in an Alpine climate. The visitor encounters several tarns, valleys shaped by glaciers, and waterfalls.
The highest peak called Pietrosul Rodnei is at 2303 m, plus, the Tăușoare-Zalion Reserve, the deepest cave system reaching a 479-m depth is also situated here. Cascada Cailor (Waterfall of horses) is the largest waterfall of Romania, falling from 80 m. Rodna Mountains National Park is the Eastern Carpathians’ northern group’s most extended protected area. These high-altitude trails leading through the land of rhododendrons and chamois are, in fact, made up of paths, animal trails, public and forest roads, marked and unmarked trails, high slopes and difficult terrain – this amalgam shows the true face and value of the area.
Participants can compete on three trails of different levels of difficulty that welcome the young, the elder, the slow, the quick, the expert, and the amateur runners, too.
